New Court planned for Aberystwyth Harbour
The Courts and Tribunals Service has earmarked Y Lanfa in Aberystwyth harbour as the proposed new County and Magistrates Court for the area. Detailed conversion and extension plans have been drawn up to convert half the building, which has been vacated by the Welsh Assembly, into a combined court to serve Aberystwyth and Mid-Wales. A formal public consultation is due to take place in the next few months. Plans to site a new court on derelict land next to the Welsh Assembly Government office in Boulevard St Brieuc have now been abandoned in favour of the new proposals.

this is good news and good use of a prime site + keeping workers in the town and so helping local shops and services in Aberystwyth and not Morrisons!
ReplyDeleteexcellent News for Aber..hopefully it will be functional 6 days a week..as individuals have to find there own way back from Llanelli courts and tend to demand bus fares/train tickets etc from public agencies...
ReplyDeleteWhat a criminal (sic) waste of a prime leisure/tourist facility! - the sight of a court with attendant detritus will do wonders to promote Aber marina's image!
ReplyDeleteIf I were a boat owner not sure I'd be very happy. There is little security.
ReplyDeleteWhat a complete waste that of a great waterfront building.
ReplyDeleteWelsh Govt used it for years, and now it is to be a court!
Anywhere else in the world a modern building on a beautiful harbour would be a restaurant & bar, but in Public Sector-driven mid-Wales it has to be offices.
Courts could have gone anywhere (eg Old Welsh School).
The Technium next door is pretty much empty (and soon will be completely empty) - this should have been a hotel/restaurant/bar.
But then the only business round here is the government.
