Few friends went to this Alun, couple said that you were the only one that appeared to be doing anything. There should be more of these sort of debates, I think that they really get people engaged in local politics.

  2. Your efforts, and that of the council, were certainly encouraging.

I note that two of the other issues raised during this meeting were the proposed M4 'Black Route' south of Newport and the TrawsLinkCymru proposals for a new railway between Aberystwyth and Carmarthen.

Regarding the M4, I have done some limited research and found two web pages that might be of interest. First is an online petition against the scheme and second is CALM, the Campaign Against the Levels Motorway.

Regarding the railway, I was again disappointed with the presentation of TrawsLinkCymru as just being about the Aberystwyth - Carmarthen link. Their website shows that their proposals include the use of the Swansea District Line, which I believe should be the initial focus of the campaign. By itself, the Carmarthen-Aberystwyth link benefits only that route, and without the direct route to Cardiff (the Swansea District Line) I do not believe the cost would be justified. Conversely, even without the Carmarthen-Aberystwyth link, an express Cardiff-Carmarthen-Milford Haven service using the Swansea District Line would instantly benefit Llanelli, Carmarthen, Whitland, Haverfordwest and Milford Haven. It might even, if suitably timed, benefit travel to Aberystwyth via the Carmarthen-Aberystwyth bus service.
