Borth Reef

I was lucky enough to be shown onto what has been constructed so far of the new Borth Reef this week, a few miles north of Aberystwyth. The £7 million scheme will apparently add fifty to a hundred years onto the life of the village of Borth as well as provide a much better environment for surfers. With the rising sea level, the high street houses backing onto the beach were expected to start sustaining serious damage within ten years. Phase 1 of the reef is expected to be finished by the end of March. More photos can be seen here

We were staying in a house on the beach while the work was going on along the front it
was really interesting to see the laser being used to set the level of the beach. We spoke to the engineers who told us that the rocks used to make the reef were placed using GPS positioning.
BUT what has happened recently ? We haven't been there for a while and wonder how the project is progressing.

A modern day emperors new clothes - looks like a big ugly £7M pile of rocks with no potential to generate good waves whatsoever to me! Still, the £0.5M worth of housing and business along the seafront there will be protected now - good job :)
